I have been decorating cookies with my mom and twin sister since I was young, but when we were in seventh grade, we accidentally started a cookie business.
I am pretty new here at The Family Handyman, and I recently decided to treat my coworkers with some cookies. Not just any store-bought cookies, but cut-out sugar cookies. Of course, we had to do tools for this crew! Bringing cookies into the office was not only a nice gesture to show them I enjoy working here, but it’s also an opportunity to share a little about me. Plus, everyone loves food in the office!
I have been decorating cookies with my mom and twin sister since I was young, but when we were in seventh grade, we accidentally started a cookie business. I say it was an accident because it just sort of happened, and we went along with it. I grew up in small-town Iowa where word got around that we had made some beautiful and delicious cookies for friends. Pretty soon everyone knew about our cookies and more and more orders were coming in.
We have cut out, baked and decorated cookies for a wide range of special occasions—birthdays, weddings, sporting events, graduation, baby showers and other miscellaneous happenings. The cookie business has stopped due to my sister and I going to college and now having jobs in different states, but we still do them every once in awhile. Since we started in 2007, the three of us have decorated more than 3,200 dozen cookies.
