With a single one-handed bar clamp and a maple board (4 in. wide x 1-3/4 in. thick), you may have the fastest-clamping band saw or drill press fence in the woodworking industry. Cut the board 1/4 in. shorter than the table youre clamping it on, then cut a 1/4-in. wide groove through the middle of two faces of the board for the clamp bar, and use it as a short or tall fence depending on the job at hand. The secret is cutting a tight-tting groove for the clamp bar. Two passes using a 1/8-in. table saw blade (with the fence set for the second pass by a test pass on a scrap board) will cut a groove the right size for most bar clamps. The clamps rubber jaws allow positioning the fence on the band saw table so it parallels the blades cutting line, which isnt necessarily parallel to the tables edge.
