You Can Spend One Night In This Iconic Building from Harry Potter
Who hasn’t imagined themselves whisked away to Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Now your magical dream can come true.
Who hasn’t got lost in a Harry Potter book and imagined themselves whisked away to Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Well, your magical dream can now come true. We can’t promise you’ll be able to fly a broomstick or perform spells, but you can stay in a replica of Hagrid’s famous hut, a bolt-hole for Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione in times of trouble.
North Shire, a vacation site in the north of England, is now offering a stay in their Groundkeeper’s Cottage. Owner Carol Cavendish spent more than $250,000 creating this magical holiday home, inspired by her love of reading as a child.
But the interior décor is a little more upscale than Hagrid’s styling. The hut sleeps up to six people, and is decorated with wood throughout, with fitted furniture (essential in a circular building) and leaded windows for authenticity.
The living room has exposed beams, complete with hanging brass kettles, and there’s a huge hearth area with wood-burning stove (we don’t recommend hatching dragon’s eggs on it though!). Furniture is comfy and homey, and there are a few mysterious chests scattered around—perhaps they’re hiding a Marauders Map or Invisibility Cloak? The living room also hosts a fully equipped kitchenette, with an oven and a fridge for storing butterbeer. (Here are some more tiny kitchens to amaze you).
The bedroom has a double bed, and bunk beds for two—check out these super-cool bunk beds—while the sofa bed in the living room also sleep two. But the piece de resistance is a Hogwarts-inspired bathroom, complete with brass bath, vintage faucet and radiator, and a brass sink resting on a wooden barrel. If you’re pressed for space in your bathroom, here’s how to make the most of what you have.
Located on six acres of countryside, and also home to other mythical dwellings like a fairy tale cottage and Hobbit House, a stay in this hut starts at $195 a night, and will satisfy the most demanding of Harry Potter fans.
